Anxiety is increasingly common in our world. Globally, there are rumours of war and threats to safety and security. We experience high levels of conflict and change across cultures and in our personal lives. We wonder about our safety, the security of our children, and what the future might hold.

If we’re not careful, our thoughts can easily lead us into anxiety, spiralling into over-thinking and worry.

God offers us a different path. He encourages us to submit everything to Him in prayer. To do so is to recognize that He is the creator and director of history, with the power to protect us and guide our lives.

By guarding our thoughts and surrendering them to God, He promises to give us His peace. This peace surpasses understanding, transcending our anxious and ever-changing world.

Having God’s peace doesn’t mean we won’t experience anxiety, but even in our most anxious moments, we can find rest in the assurance that God is with us, more powerful than our anxiety. When we offer God our thoughts and circumstances, we allow Him to intervene, transforming our thinking and actions, guarding our hearts and minds with His peace.

We lack the power to change our thoughts or circumstances—only God possesses that power. Attempting to control them often exacerbates anxiety. But we need not remain in that place. By bringing our concerns to God, we invite His peace into our lives. Over time, we’ll find His peace empowering us to think and act differently.

Whenever you feel anxious, pause and pray. Be honest with God about your feelings and thoughts. Remember, God is always in control and present with you.
