Describe something you learned in high school.
High school is a transformative period in every student’s life, filled with valuable lessons and unforgettable experiences. For me, attending a boarding school added an extra layer of growth and learning. Living away from home taught me valuable life lessons and provided me with unique opportunities to explore my interests. In this blog post, I want to share three significant lessons I learned during my time in the boarding house: acting in theatre drama, playing basketball, and the lessons that life itself taught me.
- Acting in Theatre Drama:
One of the most rewarding experiences I had in the boarding house was participating in theatre drama. Being involved in school plays not only allowed me to express my creativity but also taught me important skills that extend beyond the stage. Through acting, I learned the power of teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication. Rehearsing scenes with fellow students taught me the importance of listening, adapting, and supporting one another. It also helped me to overcome stage fright and build confidence in public speaking. The lessons I learned in theatre drama continue to benefit me in various aspects of my life, including presentations, job interviews, and even social interactions.

- Playing Basketball:
Another significant aspect of my boarding house experience was playing basketball. Engaging in sports not only kept me physically active but also taught me valuable life lessons. Basketball taught me the importance of discipline, determination, and perseverance. I learned how to work as part of a team, strategize, and adapt to different game situations. The competitive nature of the sport taught me how to handle success gracefully and how to bounce back from failures. The lessons I learned on the basketball court have translated into other areas of my life, such as setting goals, managing time effectively, and maintaining a healthy balance between work and play. - Life Lessons:
Beyond the structured activities in the boarding house, life itself became my greatest teacher. Living away from home and being responsible for my own well-being taught me independence, resilience, and self-reliance. I learned how to manage my time efficiently, maintain personal hygiene, and navigate through various challenges. The diverse community in the boarding house exposed me to different cultures, perspectives, and backgrounds, fostering tolerance, empathy, and understanding. I also learned the importance of building meaningful relationships, as the friendships I formed during those years continue to be a source of support and joy in my life.
Conclusion:
Attending a boarding house during my high school days provided me with a rich and diverse learning experience. Through acting in theatre drama, playing basketball, and the lessons that life itself taught me, I gained valuable skills and perspectives that have shaped me into the person I am today. These experiences not only enriched my high school years but also continued to influence my personal and professional life. The boarding house taught me the importance of embracing opportunities, stepping out of my comfort zone, and embracing lifelong learning. It was a transformative period that would always hold a special place in my heart.
