Our culture tends to value being busy, and we often take pride in our hectic schedules.  When asked about our well-being, a common response is, “I’m doing well, but I’m incredibly busy.”

It appears that we often derive a sense of self-worth from emphasizing our busy schedules.  Our overloaded schedules, paradoxically, provide us with a sense of pride and even contribute to our sense of identity.

Many people were surprised when Chick-fil-A decided to remain closed on Sundays, a day typically associated with high profits in the fast-food industry.  Despite only operating six days a week, the company now boasts the highest revenue per restaurant among US fast-food chains.

God honours us when we honour Him with our time.

If you and I lack sufficient time for prayer, then we are indeed excessively occupied.  If we lack sufficient time to read the Bible, then we are indeed excessively occupied.

Perhaps we should reconsider our priorities, ensuring that we dedicate time to what truly matters, rather than solely focusing on urgent tasks.

Let us pray

Gracious God, I marvel at the fact that You’re never too busy for me. Scripture says that Your ear is inclined toward me. Help me realize that being too busy to spend time with You actually depletes me and drains me of life and energy. Help me, Father, to always prioritize time with you. Amen
