This topic is good for venting my opinion in the now world.
If you had asked me about my political views ten years ago, I probably would have given you an earnest, well-meaning speech about “change” and “the power of the people.” Fast forward to today, and my political philosophy is basically just a deep, weary sigh.
My views haven’t just changed; they’ve gone through a complete demolition and rebuild.
The Democracy Fairy Tale
I used to think Democracy was this shiny, fool proof machine where you put a vote in and get progress out. Now? I look at it and realize it’s more like a broken vending machine that takes your money, gives you a bag of air, and then tells you it’s your fault for not pressing the button hard enough.
Let’s be real: democracy has failed just about everyone. It’s become a giant, expensive theatre production where the actors change every few years, but the script stays exactly the same. We’re told we have a choice, but the choice usually boils down to: “Do you want to be disappointed by Candidate A or Candidate B?”
The Church in the Front Row
What makes it even more complicated for me is seeing the Church right there in the middle of it. It’s hard to find peace in the pews when the pulpit starts sounding like a campaign rally. Instead of being a sanctuary from the chaos, it feels like religious institutions have hopped into the political mud-pit, picking sides and adding to the division. It’s frustrating because when the Church gets tangled up in the world’s political problems, it loses that “peace that surpasses understanding” and replaces it with “policies that no one understands.”
The “Everyone is Lying” Era
At this point, my political stance is “None of the Above.” I’ve reached a stage of total political agnosticism. Why? Because every government, regardless of the flag they fly or the promises they shout, seems to have one thing in common: they lie.
I’ve realized that whether they are on the left, the right, or somewhere in the confusing middle, the primary goal of any government is usually to stay in power, not to actually help the person struggling to pay their bills. I’ve stopped trying to decode the spin and the propaganda.
My New Focus
So, where does that leave me? I’ve stopped looking for a saviour in a suit. Now, I put my energy into things that are actually real—my faith, my family, and the people I can actually help through my work. Governments might lie, and democracy might be glitching, but a quiet heart and a happy home are things no politician can promise (and none of them can deliver).
