How do you manage stress?

Let’s be completely honest for a second: life in the modern world is heavy. Between endless notifications, daily responsibilities, and the sheer cost of existing, stress has a sneaky way of piling up until you feel like a smartphone running on 1% battery with 47 high-power apps open in the background.
Over the years, I’ve heard all the classic wellness advice. Cold plunges at dawn? Absolutely not. Eating pure kale until my soul feels peaceful? Nice try.
Through trial, error, and a few mini-meltdowns along the way, I’ve developed my own personal playbook for keeping my sanity intact. It’s a mix of modern entertainment, fresh air, a killer playlist, and the one foundational anchor that holds everything together.
Here is how I actually manage stress and how I reclaim my peace when the world gets a little too loud.
1. The Tactical Retreat: PS5 and Pure “Me Time”
When real life becomes an overload of demands and decisions, my PlayStation 5 becomes my personal sanctuary. There is something deeply therapeutic about grabbing a controller, sinking into the couch, and stepping into a completely different universe for an hour or two.
Whether I’m swinging through skyscraper canyons, exploring vast virtual wildernesses, or getting aggressively outplayed online by a 12-year-old on the other side of the planet who clearly has too much free time—it’s pure, uninterrupted “me time.”
Gaming forces my brain to pause the background noise of daily worries and focus entirely on the challenge in front of me. Plus, virtual problems are way easier to solve than real-life ones. In a game, if everything goes sideways, you just press restart and try again. (If only my monthly bills had a reset button!)
2. The Long Walk: Clear Eyes and Fresh Perspective
When my brain starts feeling like a scrambled egg, sitting on the couch scrolling through my phone only makes it worse. That’s my cue to put on my shoes and step outside for a long walk.
No strict route, no rush—just putting one foot in front of the other until my thoughts stop racing.
Getting outside, breathing in fresh air, and taking in the world beyond my four walls works wonders for a cluttered mind. Physical movement breaks the loop of overthinking. By the time I loop back toward my front door, half the things that felt like massive, world-ending emergencies an hour earlier suddenly feel surprisingly manageable.
3. The Soundtrack Reset: Letting Music Do the Heavy Lifting
Music is the fastest shortcut to shifting an entire mood. My stress-relief playlist is a beautifully chaotic masterpiece.
Depending on the energy of the day, I might need smooth beats to bring my heart rate back down, high-energy tracks to vent out accumulated frustration, or soul-lifting melodies that remind me everything is going to turn out fine. Music bypasses the logical, overthinking parts of your brain and speaks directly to your spirit. Turn the volume up just right, and the atmosphere changes in seconds.
4. The Ultimate Anchor: Prayer and God’s Strength
Video games offer a great distraction, long walks provide mental clarity, and music resets the vibe. But let’s talk about the real foundation that keeps me standing when the storm gets fierce: Prayer.
The most effective stress relief in my life isn’t a hobby—it’s taking a deep breath, bowing my head, and humbly acknowledging that I am nothing without God.
For a long time, I tried to carry everything on my own shoulders. I thought stress was just proof that I wasn’t working hard enough, planning smart enough, or pushing myself far enough. But true peace didn’t come from pushing harder; it came the moment I let go and admitted, “Lord, I can’t do this in my own strength anymore. I need yours.”
When you pause to pray and place your life back in God’s hands, your entire perspective flips:
The heavy weight lifts: You remember that you aren’t in control of every outcome, and you were never meant to be.
Gratitude replaces anxiety: Instead of dwelling on what’s going wrong, you remember how far God has already brought you.
Quiet confidence returns: Knowing the Creator of the universe is walking beside you makes whatever stresses you out look pretty small in comparison.
The Takeaway
Managing stress isn’t about pretending life is perfect or eliminating every challenge before you can feel happy. It’s about building a routine that allows you to step back, catch your breath, and recalibrate.
So play that game, take that long walk, crank up your favourite song, and above all, surrender the heavy stuff to God. You were never meant to carry the weight of the world alone anyway!
